The construction industry, known for its physical demands, its challenging work environments and its notorious health and safety rules, often overlooks a critical aspect of employee well-being—mental health. In recent years, the focus on mental health has gained momentum across various sectors, however despite of shocking statistics, in particular those related to suicide, that have highlighted that people working in the UK construction industry are three times more likely to take their own lives than those in other sectors, mental health remains heavily under addressed within construction.
Identifying the unique challenges that construction workers face is the first step to building strong foundations for well-being but it is also through breaking the stigma around mental health that dominates the industry, promoting work-life balance, providing support and resources, and building resilience that employers can make a positive impact on their workers’ mental well-being.
Ultimately, fostering a culture that values and prioritizes mental health will not only benefit individual workers but also contribute to a more productive and sustainable industry as a whole.
At Telling Rainscreens we understand the challenges and it is part of our values to be actively developing suitable strategies to nurture a positive and supportive work environment. This is one of the reasons we are proud to join in voicing and celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week.
